Taking the burden off residents is the foundation
As a nonprofit organization, Ymere uses the funds it receives to benefit its tenants. It does this through new construction and maintenance, among other things. Its goals include creating a sustainable city, an affordable city, a dynamic city, and a city where everyone belongs. High-quality housing at a reasonable rent is Ymere’s guiding principle.
An important and mandatory part of maintaining care facilities is legionella control. Previously, Ymere outsourced this work to small local companies operating near the building in question. Roel notes that this led to a lack of consistency: “In Almere, they did it one way, and in Amsterdam, another. We preferred to centralize the process and engage a single provider. That’s why we asked several specialists to come to Ymere and give a pitch. Normec AquaServa had the best proposal. They presented it with great enthusiasm. You could tell right away that Normec AquaServa doesn’t work within rigid frameworks but wants to take the burden off us as an organization. That’s what we were looking for. That’s why we decided to move forward together.”

Comprehensive Legionella Control Solution
Ymere employs nearly a thousand people, including specialists in scheduled maintenance and troubleshooting. Normec AquaServa provides them with more than just advice on Legionella control. The service goes much further, according to Roel: “They take care of everything for us when it comes to Legionella management. This includes check valve inspections, sampling, daily flushing rounds, corrective actions, as well as advising us on what to do in specific situations. It’s truly a comprehensive package.”
At first, both organizations had to get used to working together, Roel explains. But the two gradually developed a better rapport: “Partly because we operate in different regions and everyone had slightly different needs. The collaboration is now going extremely well, especially in the area of management. We’re still working on improving our collaboration, though, because we’d also like to receive proactive, forward-looking advice in certain situations, for example. We’re currently discussing that.”

Ymere is an organization that’s constantly changing. Roel has noticed that Normec AquaServa handles this very well: “Our annual plans and goals do change from time to time, and that’s never a problem for Legionella control. That’s really great. There’s always room for improvement, so change is part of the process. Normec AquaServa has certainly lived up to the expectations they set during the initial pitch. We wanted to have a clear picture of everything in this area, and they helped us achieve that with clear management reports. Now we know exactly which complexes are at risk and which aren’t. Normec AquaServa’s professionalism is their strength. Plus, they’re always available if you have a question. You always get an answer. That’s part of the reason why the partnership works so well. It’s going really great.”
