Scale Buildup Causes Malfunctions
As technical manager at ITBB, Rob de Vries is involved in the service and maintenance of the technical systems. At the Het Hoge Heem location, he was working on the tap water system, which involved installing a water softener to serve the entire building. In addition to using a softener for drinking water, there were also benefits to be gained in the central heating system.
“All apartments have capillary tubes, but their valves kept sticking. As a result, we had Normec Kalsbeek conduct a water analysis, which revealed abnormal values. There was a high level of lime in the water, which caused deposits to form on the pin of the stainless steel valve, causing it to stick.”

Save time and money
After the water analysis, Rob de Vries commissioned Normec Kalsbeek to measure the system volume and to resolve the limescale problem by adding CV ATA 530 to the water in the closed central heating system: “If all goes well, our maintenance department will receive fewer trouble tickets thanks to this solution. We’ll have to see what the long-term results are, but we used to visit Het Hoge Heem quite often to loosen valves. We do encounter this same problem fairly often in two-way systems. So a preventive treatment like this from Normec Kalsbeek can save us a lot of time and money.”
The Het Hoge Heem project is a first for ITBB, as they have never before tackled an installation in this way with Normec Kalsbeek. Rob de Vries will therefore be closely monitoring the results. “If it leads to fewer complaints, then we’ve found a great solution.”
Previous project also went smoothly
ITBB had already been working with Normec Kalsbeek on analyses for some time. De Spiker in Harlingen is an example of a project they tackled together. Rob de Vries:“There, we were experiencing blockages in the central heating boilers. This caused the heat exchangers to become clogged. After an analysis by Normec Kalsbeek, it turned out there was a lot of debris in the water. We first flushed the boilers, installedfilters, and added a treatment that loosened all the contaminants in the system. Finally, we added CV ATA 530 to prevent the problem from recurring. Those boilers are still running perfectly fine.”
