Storage of Hazardous Substances

When storing hazardous substances, fire poses additional risks. That is why specific requirements apply to the design and security of storage facilities. Which requirements apply depends, among other things, on the substances being stored, the quantities involved, and the applicable regulations.

A Normec inspection provides insight into the fire safety of your storage facility. Our inspectors assess whether the measures taken comply with the established guidelines. This way, you know where you stand and which potential shortcomings require attention.

Inspection in accordance with PGS 15

PGS 15 stands for Publication Series on Hazardous Substances, Guideline 15. This guideline describes measures for the safe storage and temporary storage of packaged hazardous substances. Normec conducts PGS 15 inspections to assess the fire safety of storage facilities. In doing so, we examine the requirements that apply to your specific situation. We also take into account any additional regulations issued by the competent authority.

What do we assess during the inspection?

During the inspection, our inspectors assess whether the fire safety measures comply with the established guidelines. Depending on the scope of the inspection, we examine the existing facilities and how they interact with one another.

For example:

  • The principles of fire safety
  • The existing fire safety systems
  • The associated structural measures
  • Organizational measures and management
  • The operation and interdependence of the safety measures

After the inspection, you’ll receive an inspection report detailing our findings. This will provide you with insight into the assessed fire safety and any areas requiring attention
