A playground should encourage children to explore, be active, and have fun. At the same time, it must be a safe environment where children can play without worry. This requires proper maintenance and regular inspections of both the play equipment and the playground itself.
Normec supports municipalities, schools, recreational parks, and other operators with independent inspections of playground facilities. This gives you an objective picture of safety and lets you know exactly what areas require attention.
A comprehensive view of your play environment
During an inspection, our specialists look beyond just the playground equipment. The layout of the area and potential risks in the surrounding environment are also factored into the assessment.
Depending on the situation, we check the following, among other things:
- The overall condition of the playground equipment
- Wear and tear, damage, and stability
- Entanglement and fall hazards
- The layout of the playground
- Clearance and usage areas
- Available documentation and records
Upon request, we also conduct an HIC measurement to determine the fall-absorbing properties of the surface.

A loose part or damaged surface may seem harmless, but can quickly lead to unsafe situations. By having playground equipment inspected periodically, problems are identified early, allowing you to perform targeted maintenance.

Well-prepared, quickly inspected
Good preparation ensures an efficient and thorough inspection. Therefore, make sure the playground equipment logbook is available and that the playground’s risk assessment is on hand. Was the playground equipment built in accordance with EN 1176? If so, a separate risk assessment for the equipment is not required. However, a risk assessment for the playground itself is still required.
