Many combustion systems are subject to mandatory inspections by law. The specific requirements that apply to your system depend, among other things, on its nominal thermal input and the fuel used. Normec helps you conduct the proper inspections and comply with applicable requirements.
Expert inspection of heating installations
Normec carries out expert inspections and assessments of various types of heating installations. Our inspectors assess the installation for safety, proper operation, combustion and technical condition. In doing so, we take the applicable technical and legal requirements into account.
Depending on the type of installation, its capacity, the fuel used and local regulations, an initial inspection or periodic inspection may be required. We help you determine which inspection applies to your installation and ensure that the required inspections are carried out professionally.
From Initial Inspection to Periodic Inspection
For a new installation subject to inspection, the initial inspection must take place within six weeks of commissioning. After that, the installation is inspected periodically. How often this is required depends on the installation and the applicable regulations. During the inspection, the fuel supply, combustion air, flue gas exhaust, and combustion adjustment, among other things, are checked.
With an inspection:

Expert assessment and maintenance
Our inspectors work are familiar with the technical and legal requirements that apply to heating systems. If a legally required inspection reveals that maintenance is needed, the identified defects must be resolved within two weeks. Periodic maintenance itself is not required by law, but it does help ensure your system functions properly and prevents problems.

During a Periodic Inspection (PI), the heating system is checked to ensure that it is still operating safely, is energy-efficient, and is burning fuel optimally.

That depends, among other things, on the nominal thermal input and the fuel used. Since January 1, 2026, specific inspection frequencies have also applied to, among other things, hydrogen and certain systems that operate for fewer than 500 hours per year.

Among other things, the inspector checks the fuel and combustion air supply, the exhaust of combustion gases, and the combustion settings. For certain larger systems, this also includes a CO measurement.

Periodic maintenance in and of itself is not required by law. If a mandatory inspection reveals that maintenance is necessary, the identified defects must be corrected within two weeks.
